Welcome, Emily!

You guys- I’m so excited to introduce TLT’s newest team member, Emily Kish!

EmilyK2

Emily is currently rounding out her career at Northeastern and inquired about doing her co-op with us. We met for coffee, and it was love at first sip. Ha! But seriously- Emily is totally passionate about the weddings and events industry, and we are psyched to have her joining us at the start of 2015. (Side note- she’s been to 16 countries and it’s her life goal to visit all of them. How cool is that?)

Let’s learn a little bit more about this lady, shall we?

Q: You’re currently finishing up your career at Northeastern University. What have you enjoyed most about your experience there?

At Northeastern, I’ve really had the opportunity to dive into all of my interests. Northeastern’s emphasis on career paths and its international focus has already allowed me to work in law, non-profits, and travel abroad to places like Russian and Spain. I love exploring new cultures and languages as an international affairs major, but I’ve never been limited to my major. I work with the DIY crafts club on campus, was an RA for a group of freshman girls last year, and love attending seminars on topics that spread across all majors and colleges.

Q: You were born and raised in Connecticut and moved to Boston for college, so you’re a New England girl through and through. What do you love most about the Northeast?

I am 100% a New England girl! They say you can take the girl out of New England, but you can’t take the New England out of the girl. No matter where I travel to in the world I find myself dreaming about New England’s comforts and seasons. Where I’m from in Connecticut, there are so many wooded areas, dairy and flower farms, old colonial main streets, and of course: home! New England is quaint, beautiful, and offers a wide variety of scenery suitable to everyone’s tastes.

Q: What motivated you to seek a position in the weddings and events industry?

When I was eight, my aunt got married on Martha’s Vineyard and ever since then, I’ve been completely obsessed with every aspect of weddings. Essentially, I love love! I subscribe to several wedding magazines and blogs which my peers find a little strange since we are in college, but you know your true calling must be weddings when the perfect centerpiece or engagement photo-shoot makes you tear up. Hopefully one day I’ll be able to combine my love of culture with my love of creating special moments for couples and families.

Q: What’s your favorite aspect of planning or working an event?

My favorite part of event planning is definitely the craziness of it!  I love being fully involved with every aspect and making sure that no matter what, every small detail pulls together to create a magical experience. I thrive when I’m busy. Being outside of the typical 9-5 office setting is something I’ve recognized as essential to me in order to have a fulfilling life. Communicating face-to-face and experiencing different personalities is very exciting for me.

Q: You love to travel. Where have you loved visiting/living the most?

I’ve been to sixteen countries so far and my main goal in life is to visit every single one! My favorite place to visit is Spain. The country is so incredibly diverse and each region has a different culture than the next. Being fluent in Spanish, I felt completely at home there (the Mediterranean is certainly welcoming) and luckily I’ll be able to return this summer!

Q: What do you love to do in your free time?

Now that I live off campus, I spend a lot of my free time cooking and decorating my apartment. When I’m not trying out new recipes or checking out thrift stores for sweet deals, I tend to be crafting or hosting get togethers with my friends. As a New Englander it’s difficult to spend a lot of time outdoors in the winter, but when there isn’t snow on the ground you can find me kayaking, hiking, climbing, and biking!

Q: What else should we know about you?

I’m thrilled to be working in event planning this upcoming year and cannot wait to learn cool tricks of the trade!

We can’t wait to have Emily working alongside us this year, and we know our couples will love her too! xo
