Welcome, Nicole and Madeline!

Business

A note from Alexis: I started writing the blog post below just as Maddie and Nicole were starting their internships with TLT, and then, well… things got busy, as they tend to do this time of year. So this is a better-late-than-never kind of post, but it’s kind of fun because now I know the impact they’ve had on things around here, and it’s not to be understated: they keep these wheels turning. They’re an essential part of our day-to-day operations, and they’re a joy to have around the office. These two are about halfway through their internships and I’m already starting to feel sad for the day their time here comes to an end, but that’s a note for another day. Enjoy!

Another wedding season is upon us, and so another wonderful year of welcoming interns to our team and learning and growing together is, too. This year we’re super excited to have Nicole and Madeline (Maddie or Madi for short, depending on if you’re any normal person spelling her nickname, or Alexis) joining the team – Nicole as our planning-based intern and Maddie as our design-based intern. They’ve been in the office for a just a few short weeks and have already made huge contributions to the Mt. Everest-sized pile of to-do’s that rule TLT lives at this time of year. We’re so incredibly pleased to have them on board as invaluable members of our team, and we know you’ll love them, too. So let’s have you learn a bit about them, shall we?

MEET MADDIE!

Tell us about you.
I am a sensuous person, in the most literal sense of the word. I am ruled by my senses, and I connect deeply with the nuances of how things feel and look and sound and taste and smell. I believe that noticing these small things is what makes the world beautiful, and what makes me want to be a designer.

What excites you about working for TLT?
I am so excited to help create a day that is going to live in couples’ memories for the rest of their lives. I think that it’s rare in design to be a part of something so intimately significant to individuals, and I feel lucky to be trusted with contributing to those experiences.

What are you looking forward to most during your internship at TLT?
The initial meeting with the couples! Understanding their vision, their values, and how we can make the process unique to them.

What do you like to do in your free time? What are your hobbies?
Sitting to the beach, going skiing, trying new restaurants, seeing my friends and family, going on mini road trips, taking photographs (see photo below!).

What lights your fire? What inspires you?
Designing something new and exciting and different that works, but isn’t the cookie-cutter version of itself.

What’s something not many people know about you?
I have six tattoos! (But they’re all very small.)

What’s the best advice you’ve ever received?
My grandma once told me that she never prays for anything specific, but only the strength to cope with anything that is sent her way. I thought that this was a beautiful approach to life and always remember it when I’m going through
something difficult.

Chocolate or vanilla? Vanilla.

Steak or lobster? Mmm lobster!

Cabin in the woods or shack on the beach?  Since this is just pretend, can I have both? A cabin in the woods for skiing in the winter and a shack on the beach in the summer! A girl can dream.

Morning or night? I’m definitely a morning person. I love way the light looks in the morning.

Dream vacation destination? It changes almost weekly. But right now I’m fantasizing about Bali.

Favorite form of self care? Going to the beach! The salt is a physical and emotional cure-all.

MEET NICOLE!

Tell us about you.
I’m Nicole I’m 22 and I am from Wakefield Massachusetts! I have an older sister, a brother inlaw, two awesome nephews and currently live with my mom and dad! I graduated from Wakefield Memorial High school and I am currently attending Salem State University for a degree in Business Administration with a concentration in Hospitality. I am also a member of Phi Sigma Sigma where I held the position of Membership Recruitment Chair which is where I developed my passion for event planning!

What excites you about working for TLT?
What excites me the most about working for TLT is learning all the ins and outs of event planning. Being able to see the beginning, middle, and end of the process for each event and help them come to life is something I’m also excited for. There is no better feeling than seeing a room come to life after planning out every detail for it. I feel that working to TLT is going to be the baby step start of my future career, so I am looking forward to learning and growing from this experience.

What are you looking forward to most during your internship at TLT?
The thing that I look forward to the most is getting the experience of working side by side with Alexis. Event planning is something that I’m very passionate about so being able to work with someone as successful as her is super exciting. I also look forward to getting to know the rest of the team and work with them! I overall really look forward to growing from this experience and developing more skills!

What do you like to do in your free time? What are your hobbies?
I spend majority of my free time either with friends or family! I love going to the beach or on car rides to new places and basically adventuring! Exploring is for sure one of my favorite things to do with my friends. We seem to be able to find a bunch of different cool spots whether is on purpose or by accident and even if it doesn’t work out, which it doesn’t all the time, the car rides in general are always a blast. I also love to swim! I’ve loved swimming ever since my dad taught me how to in our pool in the backyard so you could say summer is my favorite season!

What lights your fire? What inspires you?
For me the thing that inspires me the most is being a first generation American in my family. My parents were born and raised in a small island that belongs to Portugal and they moved over here for better opportunities not just for themselves but for their family. Growing up my parents have always worked hard for the life they wanted to create and that has always been something I look up to. Watching them has always pushed me to work hard and want to
always better myself.

What’s something not many people know about you?
I think something that not many people know about me is that I have an underlying love for photography. It’s something that I never really go in to, but it has always sparked an interest in me ever since middle school. I am also somewhat skilled at putting video footage together and editing.

What’s the best advice you’ve ever received?
The best advice I have ever received is to be myself and to not change for anyone. This is something I struggled with a lot in high school and even the beginning of college. I was always really timid and wouldn’t show my full personality to really anyone except for the people that were really close to me. Luckily, I was able to learn to just be me no matter who I was surrounded by because once I learned that, life became a lot more enjoyable.

Chocolate or vanilla? Chocolate definitely!

Steak or lobster? Steak!

Cabin in the woods or shack on the beach? Shack on the beach!

Morning or night? Night!

Dream vacation destination? Greece!

Favorite form of self care? Getting my nails done!
